Dr. Angie Loo & Dr. Ed Yen

Dr. Angie Loo has been practicing as an orthodontist for more than 20 years.  When she's not treating patients in her office, she can be found teaching at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Dentistry or managing the care of children with facial clefting at the BC Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Program

Dr. Loo's passion for treating children with cleft and craniofacial differences inspired her to form Spring for Kids in 2009, where she currently serves as the foundation's President.  Dr. Loo's commitment to the treatment and education of children with cleft and craniofacial differences was recently recognized with a certificate of merit from the British Columbia Dental Association  (READ STORY).

A graduate of Dentistry from McGill University and Orthodontics plus a PhD in Oral Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Toronto, Dr. Yen has pursued a career of over thirty years of Orthodontic patient treatment and university teaching, research and administration.  In addition to private practice with Dr. Angie Loo in Vancouver, Dr. Yen served for 13 years as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC and currently is the Director of the Graduate Orthodontic Program at UBC which trains graduate dentists to become certified specialists in Orthodontics. As an international lecturer across Canada and around the world, Dr. Yen has many transfer patients from orthodontists in other countries. This provides an enjoyable challenge for Dr. Yen’s developing skills in French and Mandarin. Dr. Yen’s scientific research has focused on craniofacial bone growth and links closely with Dr. Loo’s interests in patients who have jaw and dental development challenges such as cleft lip and palate. When not pursuing excellence in Orthodontics and university education, Dr. Yen enjoys outdoor sports like skiing, golf and kayaking and cultural pursuits such as theatre, opera and ballet. Travel as a part of his international academic visits is an additional opportunity to explore the world.
